Horizontal AI chat is English-first. SEA users live in Zalo, LINE, WhatsApp, and local government PDFs. New apps that write, rename, and file in Vietnamese, Thai, or Indonesian — with the right names and forms — can take review share the US suites ignore.

What people do today

Users prompt Gemini/ChatGPT in a mix of English and local language, then paste into Zalo. Diacritics break filenames. Official forms expect a legal name style the model mangles. Voice keyboards help type, not workflow.

Who already won the obvious version

Google, OpenAI, local keyboard vendors, office suites. None want to own “rename this invoice the way a VN accountant files it” as a product.

Where a small team can still work

One locale + one job: VN contract summary, Thai shop receipt rename, ID WhatsApp → task. On-device where models allow. Honor formal/informal tone. Do not scrape the government site. Ship the share sheet, not another chat skin.

How to validate before you build

If your only edge is “we added a language pack,” you will lose. Interview for the last document they were ashamed to send. Measure successful share into the local messenger. Privacy reviews in-language matter more than English screenshots.
